A minimum cost per 8mm reel to load for digitizing is $25 if it is under 10 min in length and 16mm reels are a minimum of $50 if under 10 min in length if they are to become a separate digital file. This charge is added to the prorated actual time cost under the calculated hour. Film reels approaching 30 min or greater fall under the standard film pricing of the up to an hour single price.
16mm average time vs length – 1 minute = 36 feet. Average cost per digitized minute is $2.66
8mm average time vs length – 1 minute = 20 feet. Average cost per digitized minute is $2.
Editing Film includes cutting out bad sections and basic color correction. Generally, if film is consistent in color, a single color correction for the entire film can be done. If this is the case, there is $24 additional charge for a single color correction.
Many cases however, often have multiple scenes that are significantly different from each other from very dark scenes to very bright scenes and color shifts between scenes. This is where color correction editing is needed to bring the film to a common acceptable color correction. This can involve many cuts and color corrections customized for that particular scene. Each correction is hand corrected by our colorists and each scene will run $10 per scene cut and color correction. A film can have from 5 to 30 cuts on the average. We can give an estimate of each film before corrections begin.

The most common final product after video transfer is having the digital transferred information mastered onto DVD, Blu-Ray or Downloadable file formats. Please request your desired finished video format. The highest quality CODEC GV HQ and HQX digitizations are per hour and not per tape. This CODEC is known to maintain quality up to 30 levels deep of edit copy without noticeable loss unlike other CODECS such as ProRes, DNxHD and MXF and competes very well against uncompressed video with a much smaller size. Add $49 per file for uncompressed.
A word about older Reel Video Formats such as Quadraplex. There may be some individuals who have archived their precious recording in climate controlled storage thinking one day they would digitize them. The situation each year becomes more grim because, not only are the playback systems hard to find in working order if at all, they required very skilled technicians to operate them. Not only are the tapes themselves degrading over the years but the technicians are also… meaning that the good old boys smart enough to carefully balance and service these highly temperamental machines are dying off and taking that knowledge with them. Soon that precious archive will have no stewards or machines left to recover the priceless video programs. A solution we have currently but all based on the retired technicians still alive who can make this miracle happen is within reach. The Quad Recovery Program can have one or more technicians to your location with the machines capable of doing the restoration so as to relieve the stress of shipping the tapes to an unknown future. *Archival grade restoration is the process of restoring audio tape recordings which are at risk. The risks are magnetic degradation, chemical structure deterioration, physical carrier weakening, moisture + fungus infestation, sweating syndrome, black back leaching, lubrication loss and inadequate signal from storage or original processing. This process address all of the potential threats to at risk recordings and renders a final result often better sounding than the original recording made at the time. The final result is as close to perfection as the state of the art processes allow. This is not a fast process as great care and time is taken above and beyond a common digitizing to assure the safety and complete process is done right. It is a long process with many steps to insure the damage that time has done to the tape is rectified before it ever goes into the digitizing stage. This process is also followed by the specialized archival mastering of all digital data recovered from the restoration process onto 1000 year Rock Digital Blu-Ray Archives. This additional cost is $298 per 25 Gigabytes of mastered data. This is the preferred processing for library grade archiving. 30 hours of audio approximately fit a 25 gigabyte archive safely. This process is used to render the best digital restoration possible. This process does not guarantee that the actual tape will remain is a playable or non deteriorated state after the digital restoration is done.
